Capital Connection 2007 Slate Of Companies Announced By Mid-Atlantic Venture Association
Rigorous Selection Process Yields Forty Superior Presenting Technology Companies for Premier Venture Event
McLean, VA-May 15, 2007 - Forty software and technology companies from media, telecommunications, security, energy, healthcare IT, and business services industries will be showcased through company presentations to several hundred venture capitalists at the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association's (MAVA) Capital ConnectionSM 2007 venture fair, May 29-30 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore, MD. The Co-Chairs of this year's event are veteran venture capitalists Tim Meyers of Updata Partners, Don Rainey of Intersouth Partners, and Joe Zell of Grotech Capital Group.
Companies chosen to fill the coveted Capital Connection 2007 presentation slots were chosen from a large pool of highly-competitive applicants in a rigorous selection process. The selected companies represent a diverse spectrum of technology and software solutions aimed at emerging markets as well as high-growth seasoned markets. "Each year MAVA works diligently to offer a diverse selection of Capital Connection presenting companies indicative of current investment preferences and market dynamics, representing the most fundable investment opportunities in the market," said Julia Spicer, Executive Director of MAVA. "This year's selected presenters include companies that represent investment opportunities from a cross-section of sectors, different stages of funding and varying stages in their business cycles."
More than thirty seasoned venture capitalists from the mid-Atlantic's most prestigious venture firms, as well as professionals from key services industries dedicated to the entrepreneurial community, comprised this year's selection committee. The Capital Connection selection effort, led by venture capitalists co-chairs Rich Harris, RedShift Ventures; Andrea Kaufman, Novak Biddle Venture Partners; Mark Levine, Core Capital Partners; and Bob Smith, JMI Equity identified, analyzed and selected companies in a competitive selection process that has served as a best-of-class model emulated by venture fairs throughout the country for more than two decades.
For almost twenty years, MAVA's Capital Connection annual venture fairs have helped shape the region's entrepreneurial economy, generating more than $2.6 billion of venture investments for the participating companies. Some of our region's biggest success stories-including Advertising.com, AOL, Blackboard, UUNet, and webMethods-have presented at the association's annual fairs.
