Mid-Atlantic Venture Association Announces Presenting Companies for Capital Connection 2005

Rigorous Selection Process Yields Impressive Roster of Presenting Companies in Baltimore, May 31-June 1, 2005

Timonium, MD - May 16, 2005 - Forty-two companies developing innovative information technologies and services that address sectors including media, communications, network infrastructure, security, telecommunications and mobile computing will present to several hundred venture capitalists at the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association's (MAVA) Capital ConnectionSM 2005 venture fair, May 31-June 1 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore, MD. The Co-Chairs of this year's event are Brian Hayhurst of The Carlyle Group, Karl Khoury of Columbia Capital, Harry Weller of New Enterprise Associates and Gina Dubbé of Walker Ventures.

"We strive to select the most fundable investment opportunities in the market and we are proud that the rigorous Capital Connection selection process has identified these highly qualified presenting companies for our 2005 fair," said Julia Spicer, Executive Director of MAVA. "Each year we work to proffer a slate of companies indicative of current investment preferences and market dynamics. This year's selected presenters include companies with different stages of funding requirements (from early to later-staged); enterprises from different growth and development stages; and investment opportunities from a cross-section of sectors."

Over the years, the Capital Connection selection committee made up of investors and service professionals has identified, analyzed and selected some of the best companies in the region and beyond to present at the fair. This year's selection committee led by venture capitalist co-chairs Scott Frederick, Valhalla Partners; Tim Meyers, Updata Venture Partners; Jonathan Perl, Boulder Ventures Ltd.; and Joe Zell, Grotech Capital Group; has selected another strong group of presenting companies.

"The presenting companies in the class of Capital Connection 2005 are truly representative of the powerful dynamics of entrepreneurship and venture investing in the mid-Atlantic region," Brian Hayhurst, Co-Chair of Capital Connection 2005 and Managing Director of The Carlyle Group. "The selected companies are led by seasoned management teams, have customer acquisition and revenue visibility, and offer compelling technologies and business ideas. The group's diversity across investment stages and sectors signifies the fair's capacity to broadly attract some of the region's most fundable opportunities."

Companies chosen to fill the coveted Capital Connection 2005 presentation slots beat out a pool of highly-competitive applicants. For nearly two decades, MAVA's Capital Connection annual venture fair has helped shape the region's entrepreneurial economy, generating more than $2.4 billion of venture investments for the participating companies. Some of our region's biggest success stories - AOL, Ciena, Corvis, UUNet, Blackboard, Advertising.com and webMethods - have presented at the association's annual fairs.
