Chesapeake Innovation Center - Defend America Challenge
In recognizing the five year anniversary of 9/11, the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), America's first business accelerator for homeland and national security, has issued a call for companies with innovative technology as it kicks off the first Defend America Challenge. The competition is open to companies with a product or service specializing in the homeland or national security field. CIC recently announced that the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) has offered to double the size of the grand prize of the Defend America Challenge. DBED's contribution brings the cash grand prize to $50,000.
All executive summaries must be submitted on or before November 15, 2006. Twenty five companies will be invited to submit a full business plan by December 15 and finalists will be notified by December 31, 2006.
The judging of six semi-finalists will take place before a live audience on January 19, 2007. Cash and in-kind prizes, provided by contest sponsors, will be awarded to the winner and one runner-up.

Technite 2006 Will Be Held Thursday October 19
17th Annual Celebration of Greater Baltimore's Technology Community
The Greater Baltimore Technology Council (GBTC) will hold its signature event and the region's premier night out, TechNite, on Thursday, October 19, 5:15 - 8:30 p.m., at the Baltimore Convention Center (One West Pratt Street in Downtown Baltimore).
This year, TechNite will examine the power of six degrees and how it's driving business in the region and beyond. Attendees will discover how companies throughout the Greater Baltimore region got to where they are today, and who helped them along the way.
As always, TechNite 2006 will include a high-powered program, dinner, and intensive networking time, as well as the annual announcement of Baltimore's Extraordinary Technology Advocate (the BETA Award).
TechNite has become the Greater Baltimore region's premier night out for the business and technology communities, drawing nearly 1,000 attendees including area tech executives and entrepreneurs, university and government officials, and representatives from Fortune 500 businesses.

6th Annual Heroines in Technology Dinner and Auction: Friday, October 27
The March of Dimes and Women in Technology are joining forces for the 6th annual Heroines in Technology dinner and auction on Friday, October 27, 2006 at the McLean Hilton. Heroines in Technology is an event to recognize and honor women in the technology field who exemplify volunteer service in the community. Since its inception, Heroines in Technology has raised nearly a half million dollars to support the March of Dime's mission to improve the health of babies. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception, dinner and live and silent auctions. I.J. Hudson, NBC4 technology reporter and producer of "The Digital Edge," will serve as the master of ceremonies. George Washington University Graduate Student Research & Development Showcase
George Washington University's School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) will be holding its first Graduate Student Research and Development Showcase on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the George Washington University Marvin Center. This first annual event is designed to provide highlights into research activities at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, while fostering interaction among local and regional industry, governmental organizations, potential GWU students, alumni and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences faculty and graduate students.

2007 Business Plan Competition Call for Judges
The MIT Enterprise Forum Washington-Baltimore Chapter is in search of judges and attendees for their 2007 Business Plan Competition which is being held Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the University of Maryland at College Park. Each panel of judges will help critique and rank 20-minute presentations from five of the approximately 15-20 teams which are competing.
