Mava Programs:

Submission & Selection details

To be considered, nominated technologies must meet the following criteria:

  • Technology needs to relate to Information Technology, Software, Communications, Microelectronics, or Materials, Medical technology and NOT life sciences requiring FDA approval.
  • Technology must have received research funding of at least $100K.
  • Technology must be unique and patentable.
  • Technology must address a need in the market that will allow it to form the basis for a start-up company.

Organizations may also nominate very early-stage companies that require management teams and investment (e.g., spin-out companies). Such companies must:

  • Have received no institutional equity investments.
  • Have at most the equivalent of one full-time management team member.

The ALPHAConnect Selection Committee will choose approximately three technologies that best meet the above criteria. Other selected technologies may be asked to present at future ALPHAConnect events.

Each of the technology teams will have the opportunity to make a

10-minute presentation outlining their technology, its potential markets and applications, and development required. Each presentation will be followed by a 10 minute, moderated audience discussion about the technology.

Abstracts of all nominated technologies will be included in a package to be distributed to attendees and a university point of contact will have an opportunity to introduce them selves at the event. The University representative will also be provided with contact information for the entrepreneurs who attended the event.

We strongly recommend that inventors work with their Universities business school, consultants or other mentors to understand potential markets and to prepare the business elements of the presentation. The ALPHAConnect Advisory Board will meet with the inventor several weeks prior to the event to review the presentation and provide feedback.

Please provide Suzanne Coffin suzanne@mava.org with a one page Non-Confidential description of the technologies that you would like to nominate by Friday morning, April 4, 2008. These descriptions should cover the items required for the presentation including technology overview, applications, markets and development needed.
