Initiatives for Involvement
MAVA membership is actively involved in the business communities in which we live and work. Both the MAVA membership, as well as our YAVA organization, have embraced initiatives that provide outlets for our members to get involved on a personal as well as organization basis.
In 3Q 2001, MAVA members decided to explore a more formal way for MAVA to provide an outlet for its members to be supportive and active in the community. After forming a Philanthropy Committee, a number of active MAVA members explored numerous opportunities or worthwhile programs and organizations in our community.
2003 and 2004 Grant Recipient of Choice
In 2003 and 2004, MAVA chose NFTE as its grant recipient of choice. NFTE, which has helped more than 65,000 students nation wide, has a mission that leverages the strengths of the purpose of MAVA. To support and grow young entrepreneurs ages 11-18 who are disadvantaged.
MAVA embraced the Business Plan Competition held in mid-May when students compete before a panel of judges made up of investors and community business leaders.
