Nearly 150 Baltimore-area technology business starters and business builders gathered in downtown Baltimore at the Legg Mason Tower to share ideas and connect with one another, a testament to the dynamic and  tech entrepreneurial community in the greater Baltimore region. Attendees mixed with investors and advisors, among others, as part of MAVA’s regular series of regional events in the Mid-Atlantic region.

“Events like BUZZHub Baltimore allow entrepreneurs in the region to gather to swap strategies on how to tap the unique opportunities available to Baltimore tech start-ups and tackle the challenges inherent in launching a new enterprise,” said Julia Spicer, Executive Director of MAVA. “It’s never easy to build and grow a business, but it’s always easier when entrepreneurs can turn to others to share lessons learned and hear from potential collaborative advisors and partners.”

BUZZHub Baltimore brings together the range of technology start-ups and investors with an interest in regional tech companies. Attendees represent the range of technology start-ups, from software to digital media and from cyber security to retail services, reflecting the diversity of tech start-ups in the region.

Local tech stars Social Toaster and Bambeco, who both presented on the Main Stage at MAVA's Capital Connection, were active at BUZZHub updating attendees on their recent milestones, including important partnerships and business development progress and financings.  In addition, MAVA community partners, ETC Baltimore and TechBreakfast were both in attendance, as were several of the companies recently selected to present at TechBUZZ Spring 2013, taking place at The Blues and Jazz Club, in Bethesda, MD April 23rd.

“Baltimore has a long and respected history of creating great name-brand companies, but it is also a hotbed for some of the newest and most interesting technology trends in our region.   The energetic crowd at BUZZHub and gatherings like this on the East Coast  create buzz for these enterprises – with investors, partners and customers,” said Spicer.  “Whether it is peer-to-peer collaboration, promotional support, technology assistance, seed stage capital or strategic partnering, access to key resources is crucial at this important stage.”

Combined with next weeks’ TechBUZZ Spring 2013, designed specifically to address the unique needs of seed/early-stage companies, 16 start-ups will be taking the stage to share their stories with other entrepreneurs and active seed-stage investors.  These seed-stage events precede MAVA’s annual signature Capital Connection being held on June 5-6 in Washington, DC that features growth and later-stage companies, as well as a second TechBUZZ platform.

Founded in Baltimore as a non-profit organization with deep roots in the technology community, MAVA brings together company-builders from across the country and at every stage of development, and provides a trusted public showcase to promote these enterprises, from promising start-ups to publicly-traded success stories.
