Ashburn-Based Speek Raises $1.1 Million in Bridge Funding

Speek, the Ashburn-based developer of a visual conference platform, on Wednesday announced a $1.1 million round of bridge funding. Investors included NextGen Angels and Stewart Allen, the former CTO of AddThis, according to the Washington Business Journal. The company, which is currently raising its first institutional round, now has raised $2.6 million since its inception. Speek was founded by John Bracken (CEO), a co-founder of and former business development executive at AOL, and Danny Boice (CTO), the founder of Jaxara and a former executive at The College Board. The company last June launched its beta platform, which supports connection by landline, computer and mobile phone. A web display shows all participants by name or phone number, indicates who is speaking and allows the call organizer to manage participation.
